I'm sure there will be a couple of people out there that would like to get hold of these files. It looks like Evans take them off their blog pretty much straight after the event, which is a pity!

Anyway, here goes:

Evans Ride-it! routes from the Sep 11-12/2010 event in Great Missenden.
Please note that these files (or particularly the short MTB route) is a "track" and not a route and wont work on e.g. Edge 305 or Edge 705 (it doesn't on mine). You may have to import it into bikehike and export it again to get a usable route.

Dude you are a saint!

This is probably counter-productive in the sense that the more people use his excellent service, the more likely he'll hit the Ordnance Survey quota limits more regularly! (That just so happens to be the case as I'm typing this)

His site is awesome (probably not as much as when you could save your routes, but then I joined up after he had to close that functionality down).

For those (e.g. me) with Macs that can't install Memory-Map on your computers (or with PC's who can't afford their extortionate prices) and want to be able to plot GPX courses on a proper OS map (25k and 50k) that you can upload to your Garmin (or other brands) GPS devices, bikehike is a godsend.

It's quick and easy to use (it even works in my Safari browser for the most part). You can download routes and even upload them later for tweaking before downloading it again. You can see the route elevation profile, etc.

I don't necesarily like paying for services and software, but in this case I'm more than willing to buy Simon a few pints!

Pure Flow Server / Twonky Media Server - How to disable it on Mac OS X (Leopard +)

This really annoyed me until I found the solution by digging around the twonky official website.

Are you running Pure Flow Server on your mac and want to disable it/prevent it from starting automatically? (It's just too heavy to leave it running all the time!)

Go to System Preferences > Accounts
Click on Login item
Delete Flow Server from the list

- it's that simple!

Of course if you want to add it back it can simply go to Login Items, click + and browse to and select Pure Flow Server from Applications or you could just run it manually from Applications when you need it.

Nokia Symbian S60 Reset Codes

On Nokia Symbian s60 handsets:
Soft Reset = *#7780# (preserves user data incl apps, pics, etc)
Proper Reset = *#7370# (All internal data (except for what's on the MicroSD) will be wiped)

The security code is usually 12345 by default.

I couldn't for the life of me remember what the escape sequence was for pinging from a Cisco ASA firewall.

mstsc / remote desktop weirdness

I've happily used "mstsc/console" for years now to connect to the console session on windows 2003 servers. I recently downgraded from Vista on my new laptop to good ol' XP pro. All great apart from the fact that "/console" no longer works. Now I have to use "/admin" instead. Maybe I'm just thick but isn't this a bit odd?

Nevermind.

A cool thing one of my team at work discovered the other day is the qwinsta command to query terminal server sessions and also the rwinsta command to reset sessions remotely or locally. Very handy, especially if you have naughty admins at work who don't clean up after themselves (and you cant be bothered faffing around with policies to kick them off automatically). Run a command prompt in administrator mode (Start/All Programs/Accessories/ right click on Command Prompt, select Run As Administrator)

Adobe 1406 Install Error

Dammit. Adobe sucks - how can they write software that, either when it creates the keys or modifies keys, limits the permissions to Read only for everyone? What's wrong with doing what's done on the other keys and make it inherit it's permissions from above?!

Anyway, rant over.

I've been asked to look into why someone keeps on getting the 1406 error when installing:

I've done the done thing and Google'd it and came across a few link including this one: http://www.riggsca.com/error_1406.htm but it just didn't work for me. I couldn't reset the permissions in any way even though my login was part of the administrators local group.

I had to reactivate my administrator account (I assume that creating another admin account would also do) and log in as that user before trying to install the software again.

Every time the install error would pop up I would browse in the registry to the key in question and reset the permissions by clicking on advanced and ticking the "Inherit.." and "Replace.." check boxes, applying it and removing the Everyone Read-only from the list and applying it again.

Go back to the installer and click "Retry" and do this again and again until all the permissions are reset.

Now it works.

One thing that may just be coincidence, but coincidence is something I'm fairly wary about, is that the HP 3300 wireless printer stopped working at the same time as this error started appearing. Strange but true...
